Vaginal agenesis/atresia
Vaginal agenesis and vaginal atresia are relatively uncommon conditions affecting a small proportion of women, Vaginal agenesis is the term used to describe non-development of the vagina, while vaginal atresia is a condition in which the vainga is either not fully developed or has developed in an irregular way. These conditions are usually first diagnosed at puberty when the first menstrual cycle does not occur. In some women with vaginal atresia, the existing vaginal cavity can be enlarged using a medical technique; for other women with vaginal atresia and those with vaginal agenesis, a vaginoplasty is required.
